Cerium Hydroxide
Cerium hydroxide is a light yellow particle or brown powder in appearance. It is insoluble in water and a weak acid but soluble in concentrated acid. Cerium hydroxide can be prepared by solvent extraction.
The preparation process of cerium hydroxide:
The mixed light rare earth ore is roasted with sodium carbonate and leached with dilute sulfuric acid to obtain the leaching solution of rare earth sulfate. Potassium permanganate and borax are added, and the kerosene solution of di (2-Ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (P204) - tributyl phosphate (TBP) is used as an extractant to separate cerium and other trivalent rare earths. Cerium hydroxide is prepared by back extraction with sulfuric acid, adding sodium sulfate to the raffinate to form double salt precipitation, filtration, washing, conversion with sodium hydroxide, filtration, and drying.
Cerium Hydroxide Applications
Cerium hydroxide can be used as catalyst, cerium salt intermediate, ternary catalyst, color TV computer, liquid crystal screen glass decolorizer, clarifier, the raw material of electronic industry, and smelting industry. The details are as follows:
1. It is used as a decolorant and clarifier in the glass (color TV glass) industry.
2. In the chemical industry, it is used to prepare the catalyst for automobile exhaust purification and stabilizer for PVC plastics.
3. Used to synthesize cerium naphthenate as a paint drier.
4. In the metallurgical industry, cerium ferrosilicon alloy can be smelted as a spheroidizing agent of nodular cast iron and can also be used as raw material for smelting cerium rich, rare earth ferrosilicon alloy.
5. Used as an additive in electroplating technology.
